배경

Countries with a strong Greens presence in parliament often have more women parliamentarians. However, this is not always the case. Many Greens Parties continue to have under-representation of women in publicly and internally elected positions.

The GGWN facilitates better understanding and action to support women’s equal participation in political structures and activities. We want to fight any repressive dominant power relations, not only men’s power over women, but also humankind’s power over nature.

The GGWN does this by sharing skills, knowledge and resources. These can take the form of mentorships as well as training and education programs. We also participate in campaigns to raise awareness of gender equality on a socio-political level and are continually looking for opportunities to undertake research to better understand the challenges that limit women’s participation in politics.

The GGWN seeks to work with all Greens members across the world, including parliamentarians, other publicly elected office holders, internal office holders, and general members.

Activity Plan 2017 - 2022

Facilitating exchanges between green women

Campaigning on key themes

One of the most important activities we can undertake is to increase awareness and participation in this Network for women around the world. To achieve this we have a WhatsApp group, newsletter and share blogs & articles of interest.

A critical component of our work is using the power of our network to strengthen Green women around the world. We do this by providing training on key issues associated with women’s leadership such as: how to deal with internet ”trolls” and harassment, confidence building & mutual support, media training and opportunities political participation. We also offer a mentorship program and aim to “pair” up to 50 experienced and emerging Green leaders.

We facilitate bilateral exchanges / partnerships between Green parties, Green women’s networks and Green women. We exchange information of national situations regarding equality. We aim to connect all Green women’s groups from around the world. We exchange stories and ideas from each other’s countries and connect best practices on local level. We connect with social movements.

We decide on an annual theme or two and organise activities around it. Beyond the theme, we also aim to organise for International Women’s Day, International Safe Abortion Day and are organising to ensure representation at the United Nationals for GGWN.
