Tense and complex negotiations did eventually result in an agreement on many key topics at COP29 in Baku. However, issues with the level, or perhaps lack of commitment in this crucial ‘Finance COP’, left many in the Global South with a sense of betrayal and underscoring that there is much to be done if there is any hope of keeping warming to 1.5 over this century and in supporting the most vulnerable to adapt to the growing ferocity of climate change.
