Oceans cover over 70% of our planet’s surface. It’s where life began, and even where our species emerged from. They have a beauty beyond value, and yet have provided us with so much that have helped us flourish, as well as helped mitigate the worst effects of climate change. So far.
But our oceans and seas are dying. Fish stocks are collapsing. Coral is dying. From algal blooms from agricultural run-off to acidification from carbon absorption to intensive fishing to sea-bed mining, our human activity is quickly outstripping the ocean’s ability to regulate and provide biodiversity.
Urgent action is critical. Global Greens delegates will be attending UN Oceans Conference 9th-13th June in Nice, and ahead of that, the international Green community has prepared this Press Release stipulating our demands.
