Canadian Greens Election Results 2021

Speakers

Ian Soutar
International Secretary and Previous elections Organizer at Green Party of Canada.

The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, called a snap election that was held on September 20th – two years ahead of schedule.

This election was called when polls indicated his minority Liberal government was within reach of forming a majority. Dominating the campaign discussions was the government’s COVID-19, as well as the impacts of climate change: the province of British Columbia experienced a summer of devastating heatwaves and wildfires, and parts of the Prairies are experiencing severe drought.

Despite expecting to win the 170 seats needed to form a majority government, Mr Trudeau’s Liberal Party only narrowly won the election, winning just 158.

The Greens won two seats.

Ian Souter, International Secretary and Elections Organizer at the Green Party of Canada will be hosting a special webinar to reflect on the outcome of the election and share details about the party’s campaign strategy. There will be time for a Q&A as well – this is an opportunity not to be missed!
