The world is in the middle of an extinction crisis. To maintain any hope of a ceiling of a 1.5 degree temperature rise we must protect the carbon sinks and our remaining global biodiversity. We have been working in Montreal in 2022 and Cali Colombia in 2024 and now we need your assistance for the final meeting to ensure the targets are met at the Convention on Biological Diversity’s (CBD) special additional session in Rome
Convened during escalating ecological crises, COP16 was the largest biodiversity COP yet, with key Global Greens working hard to advocate for key decisions on justice and rights issues.
However, the COP is not finished and a further special session is to be held in Rome next week where a three day discussion will determine critical decisions on finance and resource mobilization to meet targets of:
- 30% of their land set aside for biodiversity protection
- 30% for Marine Protection
- 30% Restoration of degraded land
- 50% Reduction in Pesticide and Hazardous Chemical Pollution
For the planet, and us, to survive the above goals must be met.
Global Greens, with over 100 member parties in four federations across the globe, is uniquely placed to advocate and lobby for a good conclusion in Rome and to continue to campaign for real measures in biodiversity protection. But we need your help.
