Being a Global Green means fighting to protect, enhance and celebrate nature and humanity – and understanding that the two are indelibly interlinked. Indigenous knowledge, voice and action is vital if we are to create a safe, resilient future for us all.
With that, our hugely successful Global Greens webinars continue with the next in our monthly Spotlight Series!
This coming Tuesday August 9th is International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples. To celebrate, we have brought together an outstanding line-up of powerful, indigenous people from across the globe to discuss this year’s theme of the Role of Indigenous Women in the Preservation and Transmission of Traditional Knowledge.
This exciting webinar will be at 10am UTC, Tuesday 9th August 2022.
We are delighted to be joined by the following panelists:
- Dr. Tjanara Goreng Goreng is a Wakka Wakka/Wulli Wulli Traditional Custodian of the Djawun Djumbe Nation of Central Queensland. Tjanara has been the National Secretary of the Australian Greens First Nations Network since 2018.
- Lorraine Rekmans is a member of the Serpent River First Nation, and is of Anishnabe and French heritage. She served as the Indigenous Affairs Critic for the Green Party of Canada for 12 years, beginning in 2008 and is currently serving as President of the Green Party of Canada.
- Dominic WY Kanak is the Australian Greens and First Nations Representative to the Asia Pacific Greens Federation 2020-2022 and has served as an Australian Greens Councillor from 1999-2022 in boondiboondi, Bondi Local Government New South Wales.
- Senator Lidia Thorpe is a Gunnai, Gunditjmara and DjabWurrung mother, grandmother, politician, businesswoman and activist. She is an Australian Greens Senator for Victoria, and Federal Greens spokesperson for First Nations, the Republic, and Sport. Lidia was the first Aboriginal Senator to represent Victoria.
- Pefi Kingi is a Pacific daughter from one of the largest coral atolls in the world, the Rock of Polynesia – Niue. A Pacific civil society leader, she is connected to many groups in the Pacific region and across a few continents.
